U.S. President Donald Trump is making headlines again—this time, by setting his sights on the internet’s domain name system. According to recent reports, DTTM TLD, LLC—Trump’s intellectual property holding company—has formally applied to register the “.trump” top-level domain (TLD). This means the Trump Organization could soon possess an online namespace entirely its own.
ICANN, the organization responsible for managing the global domain name system, opened applications for new top-level domains this year—the first time it has done so since 2012. During the application window, ICANN received a total of 1,616 applications, and Trump’s “.trump” was among them. ICANN released the list of applications on October 6, 2026.
It is worth noting that this application is for a so-called “branded top-level domain.” This means the Trump Organization intends to control the entire “.trump” namespace itself, rather than selling domain names to the public as is done with “.com.” In other words, only Trump-affiliated enterprises would be able to create domains like hotel.trump, golf.trump, or others for their own use. Companies operating branded domains typically utilize them for marketing, corporate websites, or internal purposes.
So, sorry, MAGA fans—you won’t be able to register a domain like yourname.trump. Want to show your financial support? You might just have to buy Trump commemorative coins instead.
From a business perspective, this move is classic Trump: taking a personal brand to the extreme by stamping his own name even on the internet’s “street addresses.” It remains to be seen whether ICANN will ultimately approve the application, but regardless of the outcome, the move itself has certainly grabbed attention.
