Major .Gdn Registrar Faces Termination Risk, 10,000+ Domains at Stake

A major registrar specializing in .Gdn domain names, Intracom Middle East, is facing potential termination by ICANN after a series of serious compliance failures — placing over 10,000 domain registrations at risk.

ICANN issued a breach notice to the Dubai-based company citing multiple violations: failure to maintain a functioning RDAP server, failure to publish the names of its corporate officers, non-payment of ICANN fees, and failure to escrow registrant data as required.

Much of this appears to stem from the registrar’s website being completely offline — currently returning NXDOMAIN errors, indicating the domain no longer resolves. Archived snapshots suggest the domain may have been repeatedly hijacked, at times appearing as a Polish risotto recipe blog, an Indian fast-food website, and even a cosplay adult content site.

This isn’t the first time Intracom has run afoul of ICANN. Three years ago, the registrar was hit with a three-month accreditation suspension for similar issues.

What sets this case apart is the scale of active domains at risk. While many recent ICANN enforcement actions have targeted registrars with little to no domains under management, Intracom manages over 10,000 domains — the vast majority of them in the .Gdn extension. At its peak, it was .Gdn’s largest registrar, offering registrations for less than $1 each.

ICANN has given the company until the end of May to resolve the issues or face termination of its accreditation.
