Domain name management agency Verisign released its Q3 2025 domain name industry briefing. Data shows that by the end of the quarter, the total number of registered top-level domains (TLDs) worldwide reached 378.5 million, an increase of 16.2 million compared to the same period last year, representing a year-on-year growth of 4.5%.

As the mainstream top-level domain for the internet, .com rebounded after a brief decline in registrations at the beginning of the year, climbing to 159.4 million registrations by the end of the quarter, an increase of 1.5 million quarter-on-quarter and 2.7 million year-on-year, maintaining its dominant position. Conversely, .net domain name registrations continued their downward trend, reaching only 12.5 million by the end of Q3, a decrease of approximately 400,000 year-on-year.
Country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) performed steadily, with registrations reaching 144.8 million, an increase of 4.8 million year-on-year, representing a growth of 3.4%. While the base of new general top-level domains (gTLDs) is relatively small, their growth momentum is the strongest, with 42.9 million registrations, an increase of 7.4 million year-on-year, representing a growth rate of 21.0%, making them the highlight of the domain name market this quarter.
