Lipsy, a UK women’s fashion retailer under the Next umbrella, has announced plans to terminate its .lipsy dot-brand gTLD after managing it since 2016. Despite this, the registry had a significant number of domains, with 132 still active as of last month.
Records show the bulk of .lipsy domains—primarily product keywords redirecting to Next’s websites—were deleted on October 22, one day before Lipsy notified ICANN of its decision.
Interestingly, .lipsy was relatively active compared to other dot-brand gTLDs, but domain registrations ceased in mid-2022. It transitioned from Verisign to Identity Digital as its back-end provider in May 2023.
The termination marks a rare case of an active dot-brand winding down operations, reflecting evolving strategies in the dot-brand gTLD space.
