ICANN has approved the extension of the .xxx registry agreement with relaxed registration conditions. On November 10, 2024, ICANN’s Board of Directors decided to extend the contract with ICM Registry LLC, originally set to expire on November 30, for another 10 years. The new agreement removes the requirement for a sponsoring organization, replacing it with a series of “Public Interest Commitments” (PICs) aimed at combating issues like child pornography. This change makes registering .xxx domains easier, as users no longer need to be part of a “sponsored community.” As of July 2024, there were 44,853 .xxx domains registered.
