.Music Eases Restrictions with Public Auction for High-Value “Service Names”

DotMusic Limited, the Cyprus-based registry behind the .music top-level domain (TLD), has relaxed its registration policies by launching a new auction series for high-demand “service names,” making parts of the .music namespace more accessible to the public.

Traditionally, .music domains have been restricted to verified members of the global music community. Registrants are required to confirm their affiliation through identity verification at id.music, a safeguard designed to prevent domain speculation and identity abuse.

Now, for the first time, select generic and industry-relevant names—such as Ai.music, Digital.music, Licensing.music, Publishing.music, Streaming.music, and Track.music—are available through a limited auction process. These “service names” are exempt from the usual community verification requirements and start at prices between $199 and $299.

The first “Platinum Auction Event” began on June 25 and runs through June 29, 2025. It will be followed by four additional five-day auction rounds. The full list of available domains can be downloaded at auction.music.

This move could breathe new life into .music’s adoption. While approximately 30,000 .music domains have been registered so far, only around 8,100 are currently in active use. The new auction strategy not only targets broader public engagement but also aims to position .music as a premium namespace for digital music platforms, licensing services, and streaming brands.

By opening access to high-value, commercially relevant domains, DotMusic is signaling a shift toward greater market flexibility—while still maintaining the integrity of its music-focused mission.
