Montenegro’s .Me Domain Cracks Down on Illegal Online Content

The registry behind Montenegro’s .Me domain is stepping up its fight against illegal online content, specifically targeting child sexual abuse material.

Domain.me has expanded its collaboration with the UK-based Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a charity that works globally to reduce access to abusive online content. Initially connected through the PIR Sponsorship Program, Domain.me is now a full member of the IWF.

A key tool in this partnership is the TLD Hopping List, which tracks websites that attempt to evade shutdown by switching to new top-level domains. These sites often reappear with the same content and similar names, creating a whack-a-mole problem for enforcement.

By integrating this list into its monitoring efforts, Domain.me ensures that its TLD doesn’t become a refuge for such content. This move helps eliminate potential safe havens for criminals trying to stay online.

Predrag Lešić, CEO of Domain.me, reaffirmed the registry’s commitment:

“At .ME Registry, we are committed to creating a safer and more responsible online space. Joining the Internet Watch Foundation reflects our commitment to collaborating with industry leaders to prevent online abuse, raise awareness of online safety, and support the IWF’s vital mission.”

With this strengthened alliance, .Me joins the global push to make the internet a safer space by shutting down the digital pathways used to spread illegal and harmful content.
