London-based startup Gendo has secured €5.1 million in a recent funding round, driven by growing demand for its generative AI software tailored for architects. Founded in 2022 by architectural designer George Proud and software engineer Will Jones, Gendo’s platform transforms simple inputs such as sketches, 2D drawings, or text descriptions into hyper-realistic building designs.
Gendo’s software functions similarly to AI tools like Midjourney or DALL-E, but is specifically built for architectural purposes. Users can precisely adjust design elements, including colors, lighting, structural features, and furniture. The platform promises visualizations up to 100 times faster than conventional software at a mid-range subscription price of £15 per month.
CEO George Proud emphasized the importance of industry-specific AI tools, noting that the strong market reception validates this approach. Despite launching just four months ago, Gendo has already attracted early adopters such as Zaha Hadid Architects, KPF, David Chipperfield Architects, and Benoy. Patrik Schumacher, principal at Zaha Hadid Architects, recently joined Gendo’s board, calling the tool a “step-change for our discipline.”
The startup plans to use the new funding to enhance its AI capabilities and develop customized workflows for large design firms. The investment round was co-led by German early-stage funds PT1 and LEA Partners, with additional contributions from the UK’s Concept Ventures and London-based Koro Capital.
