After more than three years of protracted domain name disputes, supercar giant Lamborghini has finally won control of its core domain name, Lambo.com, bringing this battle over the brand’s core abbreviation domain to a close.
The dispute began in 2022 when Lamborghini, pursuant to the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), filed a lawsuit against the Lambo.com domain and won. The domain registrant, Richard Blair, subsequently filed a lawsuit seeking to halt the ruling. Lamborghini then filed a motion for summary judgment, which was granted by the judge in October 2024. Even after Blair appealed, the appeals court upheld the lower court’s original ruling last month, bringing Lamborghini’s legal battle to a close.
It is reported that Blair purchased the domain name for $10,000 in 2018, claiming his nickname was “Lambo.” However, the use of this nickname occurred after the domain purchase, and he had previously listed the domain for $75 million, clearly indicating an intent to profit from domain squatting. Based on the Anti-Domain Squatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA), the court ruled in favor of Lamborghini, finding Blair’s actions constituted malicious domain squatting.
Although the Whois registrant information for Lambo.com is currently hidden, three key pieces of data confirm Lamborghini’s control: the registrant’s country of origin is listed as Italy; the domain has been migrated from its original registrar, NameSilo, to Key-Systems (belonging to the same registrar group as Lamborghini.com); and the domain name server is now pointed to AWS—the service provider for Lamborghini’s official website.
As the core abbreviation of the Lamborghini brand, the inclusion of Lambo.com will further improve the brand’s domain name protection system, strengthen online brand consistency, and provide a more intuitive brand access portal for global car enthusiasts and consumers.
