Ireland’s .ie registry is grappling with a decline in domain registration renewals, a challenge faced by many European country-code registries.
To address this issue, the registry conducted an in-depth analysis, summarized in a blog post titled The Renewal Prediction Playbook. The study examined 292,410 domains registered from November 2022 to October 2023, with an overall renewal rate of 83%. Key findings indicate that older domains (10 years or more) and those registered in specific months are more likely to be renewed. Conversely, domains with over 10 characters, minimal content, or lacking a CMS are at a higher risk of being deleted.
These insights provide valuable data for registries aiming to predict and influence renewal trends, ensuring a more stable financial future for the domain industry.
