InternetNZ, the official registry for New Zealand’s country-code top-level domain .nz, has announced a price increase for all .nz domain names. Starting July 1, 2025, the wholesale price for registrars will rise from NZD 18 to NZD 22 per domain—an increase of NZD 4, equivalent to approximately €2.
This is the first price adjustment since 2020. InternetNZ cites several reasons for the change, including a significant rise in operating costs over the past five years. These increased expenses are attributed to infrastructure, staffing, and general operational overheads that the registry can no longer absorb.
Additionally, the registry notes that the pandemic-driven growth trends have leveled off, resulting in little to no new growth. InternetNZ also points to rising costs related to compliance with regulations on critical infrastructure, data protection, privacy, and sustainability initiatives.
The price hike applies to new registrations, renewals, and domain transfers. However, the organization assures users that no further price increases are expected in the coming year, and pricing will remain stable throughout 2025.
