ICANN Terminates Two Chinese Registrars Over Unpaid Fees

Domainincite:ICANN has officially terminated the registrar accreditation agreements of two Chinese domain registrarsEJEE Group Beijing and VIP Internet Industry — after both companies failed to pay their dues for over two years.

The termination, effective later this month, follows repeated non-payment since March 2023, according to ICANN’s notices. Interestingly, the two registrars share common contact information and appear to be operated by the same individual behind another registrar that was terminated back in 2017.

EJEE operates the high-profile domain Domain.cn, although its registration platform is reportedly non-functional. Meanwhile, VIP Internet’s website is currently offline altogether.

Despite having sold thousands of domains in the past, both companies have managed only one or two active gTLD domains in the last year, suggesting minimal recent activity. No registrants are expected to be impacted by the termination.

ICANN’s action sends a clear signal that registrars must remain financially compliant, regardless of their past scale or domain portfolio size.
