ICANN Terminates Contracts with Asia Green Registry

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has terminated the registry agreements with Istanbul-based Asia Green IT System Bilgisayar San. ve Tic. Ltd. Sti.

The affected generic top-level domains (gTLDs) include .nowruz, .pars, .shia, .tci, and an internationalized top-level domain (IDN). Back in July 2024, Asia Green had already been issued a warning by ICANN for multiple breaches of contract. These included failure to meet contractual obligations regarding downtime for the Registration Data Directory Service (RDDS), delays in submitting monthly reports, and failure to pay required fees.

As a result, the .nowruz domain, which currently has ten registrations, was placed under the Emergency Back-End Registry Operator (EBERO) program. Nominet, the registry operator for .uk, was appointed as the EBERO manager.

ICANN cited non-compliance with a confidential “term sheet” dated October 25, 2025, as the basis for the contract termination. The future of .nowruz remains uncertain. In a statement, ICANN announced:

“ICANN will conduct an assessment and make its determination regarding whether or not to transition operation of the .nowruz gTLD to a successor registry operator.”
