The Internet Commerce Association (ICA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO Center) officially announced the completion of a joint review of the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). As the core framework for domain name dispute resolution led by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the UDRP directly relates to domain name asset rights, and the construction of a fair policy system is of great concern to the industry.

This review was jointly coordinated by Zak Mouskovic, General Counsel of the International Arbitration Center, and Brian Beckham’s team at WIPO. It brought together global industry leaders, legal experts, and stakeholders, clarifying best practices, building consensus, and outlining optimization directions through multiple rounds of consultations. The resulting independent report (PDF version) has been officially released and submitted to ICANN, providing important reference for its Generic Name Supporting Organization (GNSO)’s subsequent review of the UDRP.
The report clearly presents the consensus and differences among the parties, and is expected to significantly simplify ICANN’s official review process, ensuring that policy adjustments are based on sufficient market feedback and community opinions. As a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of domain name owners, the ICA’s deep involvement signifies that the domain name industry’s demands are being more fully expressed in the optimization of UDRP policies. Furthermore, the ICA Annual Conference will be held in Las Vegas from January 15th to 17th; industry professionals are encouraged to attend.
