HEMAV, a Spanish startup specializing in AI-driven agricultural solutions, has successfully raised €8 million in funding aimed at enhancing its mission of making agriculture more sustainable. The funding round was led by sustainability-focused investors, including Future Food Fund, PureTerra Ventures, and Inclimo.
The investment will allow HEMAV to further develop its SaaS platform, LAYERS, expand its global reach, and drive innovative agricultural practices that address critical challenges like climate change and food security.
“We’re revolutionizing agriculture and estimating production at a national scale — this is an enormous step,” said Xavier Silva, CEO of HEMAV. “As we look to 2025 and beyond, we remain steadfast in our mission to deliver groundbreaking AI-powered tools that foster security in global food supplies and promote sustainable practices, ensuring a healthy and prosperous environment for future generations.”
The agricultural sector faces significant challenges, including rising food demand, climate change, and an alarming 30% of global food waste. Since its inception, HEMAV has utilized cutting-edge technology to empower agriculturalists with tools that predict harvests, optimize resource use, and increase food production while minimizing inputs. In 2024, the company achieved significant milestones, expanding its operations to 24 countries and digitizing 9.2 million hectares of farmland.
LAYERS, HEMAV’s AI-powered platform, processes billions of data points to deliver precision insights that can reduce input costs by up to 30%, enhance logistics, and provide highly accurate yield predictions. The platform also promotes sustainability through advanced irrigation models that optimize water efficiency and traceability management tools secured by blockchain. These features help agriculturalists comply with sustainability standards and obtain zero-deforestation certificates.
The recently launched CROP MASTERS initiative strengthens HEMAV’s impact by offering tailored consultancy and training guided by local experts to address region-specific agricultural challenges.
Looking ahead to 2025, HEMAV aims to scale the predictive capabilities of LAYERS and extend its global impact, equipping agricultural communities with tools to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. As part of its growth strategy, the company has recently restructured its shareholder base, bidding farewell to 61 small shareholders who played a vital role in its journey over the past decade.
Nic Pannekeet from PureTerra expressed excitement about supporting HEMAV’s journey: “We are thrilled to support HEMAV in its journey to redefine modern farming. HEMAV’s innovative platform is not only improving agricultural productivity but also tackling one of the planet’s most pressing challenges — water scarcity. Their technology is a game-changer for sustainable farming, and we’re excited to help them scale.”
“This investment represents a pivotal moment in our journey to transform agriculture through AI and innovation,” said Fernando Casado, General Partner at Inclimo. “At Inclimo, we are proud to support HEMAV’s mission to empower farmers worldwide with smarter, sustainable solutions that not only optimize yields but also address the urgent challenges of climate change and food security.”
