Punktum dk, the administrator of the Danish top-level domain .dk, recently announced a change in its domain name service model: effective July 1, 2026, it will cease direct sales of .dk domain names to end users and transition all registration and management services to authorized registrars (resellers).

Under the new regulations, all new .dk domain name registrations must be handled by authorized registrars. Users who currently register their domains directly with Punktum dk will be given a two-year transition period and must select a registrar by June 30, 2028, which will take over the subsequent management of their domains.
Punktum dk stated that this change aims to streamline the user service process—users can now directly contact the registrar for registration, renewal, invoicing, and other operations, improving user convenience. The new system is expected to attract more international registrars to the Danish market, improving service quality through competition, and will continue to utilize protocols such as DNSSEC to ensure the security of the domain name system.
Although it will no longer directly interface with end customers, Punktum dk will continue to assume regulatory oversight responsibilities, ensuring compliance with registrar regulations and maintaining the security and stability of the .dk domain name system. The registry’s new contract is expected to take effect on April 1, 2026, in preparation for the full transition in July.
