Amazon Registry has announced the long-awaited launch of three of its gTLDs, .free, .hot, and .spot, with the Sunrise Period set to begin on April 2 and the Trademark Claims Period starting on May 12, which usually marks the beginning of general availability.
While Amazon owns 54 gTLDs, including 10 dot-brands, many of its generic extensions have remained inactive for years. These three new gTLDs have been in the root since 2016 but have not been available for registration until now.
Amazon has not yet disclosed pricing or any registration restrictions for these domains.
Amazon’s gTLD Performance
• So far, the most successful Amazon-operated gTLD is .bot, with around 14,000 registered domains.
• Last year, Amazon launched .deal and .now, but .deal has yet to reach 10,000 registrations, and .now remains under 1,000.
• The .free gTLD was particularly competitive, with Amazon having to pay off four other applicants to secure the rights to operate it.
Whether these new gTLDs will gain traction remains to be seen, but they have the potential to be Amazon’s most popular domain launches yet.
