Amazon has announced an additional $4 billion investment in Anthropic, the creator of Claude AI, bringing its total funding to $8 billion. This funding follows earlier investments of $1.25 billion in September and $2.75 billion in March.
As part of the deal, Anthropic will designate Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary training partner. Future AI models will leverage AWS’s Trainium and Inferentia chips, strengthening the partnership between the two companies.
This collaboration aligns with reports suggesting that Anthropic’s Claude AI will power Amazon’s next-generation Alexa assistant, set for release in 2025. The revamped Alexa promises improved conversational abilities, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. However, beta testers noted issues with responsiveness and functionality in early versions.
Amazon’s investment aims to bolster its position in the competitive AI landscape, as rivals like Microsoft and OpenAI continue to lead the market. The company hopes that integrating Claude AI will help Alexa deliver a more natural and efficient user experience in the future.
