The third quarter saw a slight dip in global domain registrations, as outlined in Verisign’s Domain Name Industry Brief. The total count fell to 362.3 million—a decrease of 0.1 million compared to the previous quarter. This decline was driven by a 1.1 million drop in .com and .net registrations, a continuing trend over the past several quarters.
Specifically, .com registrations dropped from 157.6 million to 156.7 million, while .net registrations decreased to 12.9 million. However, pre-2012 gTLDs (excluding .com and .net) rose by 100,000 to 17.3 million, and ccTLDs saw a similar increase, reaching 140.1 million by quarter’s end. New gTLD registrations rose by 800,000, reaching a total of 35.4 million.
