Latvia’s University of Latvia, the managing body of the .lv domain, has announced that domain disputes for .lv can now be submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration. The .lv Dispute Resolution Policy (lvDRP) is similar to UDRP but has key differences: it protects registered trademarks, geographical indications under Latvian/EU law, and trade names in Latvia’s business registry. Unlike UDRP, lvDRP requires only proof of bad faith registration or usage, not both. Disputes are typically handled in Latvian, but English is allowed if both parties are based outside Latvia.
