We launched Atom.com Public Auction Events a few weeks ago, and with three now under our belt we’ve had some amazing results, like receiving close to 5000 bids, and we’ve also learned a lot!
One of the key learnings was related to reserve pricing. While our sellers listed many strong domains for our first auctions, a lot of the reserves turned out to be too high. This discouraged both buyers and sellers, so we made fixing it a priority.
For the next five Themed Public Auction Events, we’ve changed a few more things, including:
- Maximum Reserves: Max Reserve will be 15% of AI Appraisal for Standard, Plus, and new domains, and 15% of BIN for Premium.
- Listing Fees For Higher Reserves: Sellers who want to set a higher reserve will be able to do so for a $10 listing fee. This fee is designed to discourage overly high reserves that might deter buyers while still giving sellers flexibility for higher-value domains
- Improved Communication: We’ve added several notifications for both buyers and sellers at key touchpoints so that everyone remains in the loop and engaged.
- More Promotion: We’re boosting marketing with more promotions and Event-centered content, including ads, emails, and blogs.
We built our Auction Events to balance buyer and seller needs, and we’ve been working hard since their launch to boost both exposure and participation. Our next Events are now open for listings, and we will continue to improve their delivery based on ongoing testing and learning!
Upcoming Public Auction Events
Following on from our first three Atom.com Public Auction Events, we’ve planned five further Themed Events. Starting with a Sapphire-Marketplace-themed event for single-English-word non-.com domains, these events are all accepting submissions.
We have five Auction Events planned for January and February 2025. The themes are:
- Jan 29th: One-Word Alternative Extensions
- Feb 5th: 10+ TLDs Taken (.com Only)
- Feb 12th 4 Letter Domains (.com Only)
- Feb 19th: 10+ Years Old (Aged .com Domains)
- Feb 26th: Atom Valuation $20K+ Domains
We’re now accepting domain submissions for all five of these events. If your domains meet the criteria, this is your opportunity to showcase them in curated auctions backed by targeted advertising.
Core Guidelines to Maximize Your Success as a Seller
- Reserve Prices: All public events support reserve prices to ensure a minimum value for which your domain will sell.
- Max Reserve Prices: Reserve prices are capped at 15% of the Atom.com AI appraised Value (or BIN price for Premium listings) to encourage robust participation. For the best results, we recommend setting a low – or no – reserve price to maximize participation and bidding activity. However, for an optional $10 listing fee you can set a reserve between 15% and 50%.
- Auto Curation: All submissions are reviewed instantly, providing immediate acceptance feedback to ensure only domains that meet the event criteria are approved.
- AI-Based Value Scoring: Buyers will be able to sort auctions based on AI-based value scoring, helping them identify high-potential domains.
- Outside Domains Allowed: Domains do not need to be listed on the Atom.com platform to participate. However, you must verify ownership to be eligible.
- Marketing Exposure: Auctions will receive promotion across Google, X, LinkedIn, and other key platforms.
